| Ace40k's Sound Mod (v1.03b) - File Description |
 |
Description: Once again we welcome back Ace40k to the stage so that he can deliver to you, the Company of Heroes gamer the next version of his extremely popular sound mod! If you enjoyed his previous release...or, if you missed out on it, and you are of the mind that the weapon sounds that you hear while playing Company of Heroes lack that certain something, then count yourself lucky, as you are about to download a mod that will improve what you hear!
This modification changes a lot of the units' weapon sounds in-game thus making them sound significantly better and more realistic. Battles from now on will sound much more intense as if World War II has come home. Ace40k's Sound Mod will change the sounds of most of the Unit's weapons, which will in-turn, change your game-play experience for the better, and that is always a good thing! Be prepared for a whole new gaming adventure, and enjoy Company of Heroes in a different light...err...with new sounds!
The developer has stated that this is a beta, however, the change found in this version includes:
- Replaced many effects with sounds which have a more realistic approach
Time to enjoy Company of Heroes the way it should have sounded!
Refer to the readme for more information.

Ace40k's Company of Heroes soundmod/-pack --- RELEASE V1.03 BETA
------------------------------------------------------
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
description:
This is a sound (mini-)mod for Relic Entertainment's latest real-time strategy game Company of Heroes.
After having finished installing the mod, most of the unit's weapon sounds in the game are changed and thus sound significantly better. You will see remarkable differences in battles concerning the sound quality and game depth in general due to the sounds I've beefed up.
Further notice, this is a BETA version. I'm currently working on some more Opposing Fronts sounds and just want to evaluate how people like these sounds so far. I know they are entirely different in some aspects from the sounds of the former versions. They have also been quite some time on my hard drive so I thought it was time to release them.
installation:
1. BACKUP the RelicCOH.module file in your CoH root directory by moving the file to another location. Simply renaming it won't do (in my case) and the game will still play the default sounds.
2. Afterwards, extract all the files located in the CoH folder of the zip file to your CoH directory. Confirm overwrite prompt messages with yes.
3. If you already have a modified RelicCOH.module file for your own modification or if you want to include my sounds in your own mod or whatever, do this:
- open the RelicCOH.module via Notepad/Editor or any text editing program
- locate the lines [data:sound_low] and [data:sound_high] in the file
- delete all the content there and/or directly replace the existing text with this:
[data:sound_low]
folder = WW2DataSoundLow
archive.01 = WW2ArchivesWW2AceSoundmodLow
archive.02 = WW2ArchivesWW2SoundLow
[data:sound_high]
folder = WW2DataSoundHigh
archive.01 = WW2ArchivesWW2AceSoundmodHigh
archive.02 = WW2ArchivesWW2SoundHigh
*******************************************************************
BEWARE: If you DON'T have a MODIFIED RelicCOH.module among your files in the root folder you can skip this whole part and continue to step 4.
4. My Soundmod is ready to go now. Start a match and turn up the volume!!
- Note: this method is fully COMPATIBLE to CoH online gaming unlike the method to manually set up a mod via shortcut/dev switch which is usually NOT compatible to online play.
- Be aware that you are going to have to put your backup RelicCOH.module into the same place again overwriting the custom .module before you can apply a new patch to your game (patches will generally refuse to install if custom content/modified files have been detected).
uninstall:
- just overwrite the custom RelicCOH.module file with the one from your backup and remove the two custom .sga archives
changelog:
V1.03b:
- replaced many effects with sounds which have a more realistic approach (not final, most Opposing Fronts sounds also still missing)
V1.02:
- terribly simplified installation procedure. SoundInstaller or complex backup/installation measures are not required any more.
- added some more sound effects
V1.01:
- added additional sounds
- improved some other sounds from the previous version which did not quite fit
V1.00:
- first public release
credits:
- sounds all mixed/modified/cut/converted/etc. by GrandMaztahAce a.k.a. Ace40k
- tools I was using: Corsix's Mod Studio & BurnerTool, SMFConvert by Mannerheim
disclaimer:
- I am not responsible for damaging your game/system neither with my mod itself nor with the installation procedure
- You may upload the mod somewhere else, put it on CD/DVD etc. but ALWAYS keep the zip as a whole so the readme.txt containing the credits won't be separated from the custom files.
- You may NOT modify my work and/or publish it under your name.
- If you want to integrate my mod into your own mod, leave a small hint in your Readme/the mods description saying "Sounds by Ace40k" or something similar. You don't have to let me know...
happy playing

Ace40k u did a fantastic job with this! they r the closest ive heard (in this game) to real life weapons, ur sounds have that *crackle* sound real life small arms have! the immersion is fantastic!, for the first time i play this game as loud as my volume can go! im deaf now! u r my new favorite soundguy for this game cant wait for later versions!
Sorry for being a bit stupid. " (not final, most Opposing Fronts sounds also still missing)"
Does that mean that where I'd have a OF sound I get nothing, or just that they haven't been changed yet?
sry for late answer...you will get the default sounds when playing opposing fronts they havent been changed yet!!
work on the pack will continue soon as I find enough free time....stay tuned!
I've tried this and I like it. Only real gripe is as to why there's multiple MG42 sounds?
The game wont launch once i put your module in my directory, when i put the original module its launches. What is the problem?
