Description:
Reskins, rebalances, and re-tweaks, oh my. This mod certainly looks exciting, with all sorts of rebalancing and tweaking of the way the game works. A lot more differences have been worked into the company selection tree, making that initial decision all the more agonizing. Each tree grants different units, and there's been a whole bunch of modifications and additions besides that.
And, if that weren't enough, the units of all sides have been re-skinned, and rather well too. This mod not only looks good, but plays better.
But don't take my word for it. Download it yourselves and try it out!

P.S. Resistance is futile, eh?

1the popcap is stock for the game. (rather boring for a mod.)
2 amount of units to chose from. if you add units to a faction don't take any away diversity of selection makes it interesting and fun
3population count for emplacements should correspond to the number used ie. flack guns 3 to 4 arty 3 to 4 mg bunkers 1 motor bunker 3 to 4 not 10 high numbers make it worthless to use
other than that keep up the good work |
rc37456 From: Joined: July 5th, 2009 Posts: 51 | played the mod as allies, then as the SS. the only nice thing about the allies was the hellcat, and the only nice thing about the SS was the hotchkiss imo. doesn't play any different over stock (or any large amount of different, and british trucks still get jammed at the entry point and never setup for AI) |

This mod's main goals are to properly balance the game and expand upon it while keeping CoH's core gameplay and scale. One thing we wanted to stay away from was increasign the scale of fighting to a point where players would be able to raise huge C&C style armies that honestly would require very beefy machines to keep the game from lagging.
The point of many of the new units replacing the existing ones is mostly for balance, but also what would you do with 2 units that are almost identical? For instance the Sdkfz222 and the Sdkfz250/9, which have the same armament and very similar protection, speed and cost. There would only be a need for one, as both fill the same role, but because the Sdkfz250/9 is tougher, it would be used the most by human players. Because the vast majority of that type of replacements are very similar, adding them as Doctrine Specific Replacements is more to add variety to the Doctrines without throwing off balance.
Likewise the population required by many defensive structures is for balance purposes. If the large and tactically formidible Mortar Bunker only cost 5 pop, what would prevent a player from spamming it all over the map? It would need an extremely high cost to keep some semblance of balance, and even then a resource savvy player woudl still be able to fight and save up enough to keep building them. A high population requirement is the best way to limit the number built by any player at a time, without applying a hardcap restricting the structure or unit to a specific number (something we try to avoid).
It seems that you probably have quite a good machine and you favour large hectic battles where players own armies that are more of a Battalion in strength than a Company. This mod is aimed at people who enjoy the standard scale and complexity of Company of Heroes and want to see it expanded upon, not a mod that drasticaly changes gameplay or allows the player to build large armies that require huge micro skills and experience in order to control it effectively.
rc37456, You might enjoy playing with the Jagdtiger in the Waffen-SS' Tank Destroyer doctrine or the US Armoured Company's M21 Mortar Halftrack. There are many new units and vehicles ingame, as well as most of the existing units have been modified or improved upon to some degree. It's difficult to get totally new vehicle models ingame fully at the moment, but already in Cross of Iron there is the Jagdtiger, M21 Mortar Halftrack, Ju-87 Stuka, Jagdpanzer IV and Sdkfz250/9 to name most. In the next release there will also be a number of new additions to the Allies including the Comet tank. |

awm7353 Joined: January 7th, 2010 Posts: 2 | It is very much appreciated that someone can make a mod that installs itself with its own start icon instead of creating short cuts and changing target locations only for it to not work. I wish more mod creators were that considerate.
That being said, the major problem I have encountered in 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 is friendly AI tend to congregate in one area and sit there. In one instance I used my own artillery on friendly units just to break up the congestion. But that only worked once, the other times they just re-spawned and went back to the same place. Other times they gather around their base and sit there and I have to go out and defeat 3 or 4 opponents on my own, which adds hours to play.
I like the addition of American infantry rifleman and tank buster teams, but they seem weak, they get killed easily. I don't like the additional purchase of the 76mm on the Sherman, although I understand the reasoning. The cost seems awlfully high, especially when those points are needed for artillery and the Sherman gets killed easily anyway.
Overall, you got a good thing going. Hope to see great things in the future |
