The Pass (1.0) - File Description

NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available.
You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!

Description:
About the file
Here we have a small two player map by a new mapper; Hawkeye (everyone be nice stick out tongue). The map itself is situated on two mountainous plateaus which are seperated by a rocky ridge in the centre of the map with a large road running from one side to the other, trees have been placed well and hills added for height variation.

Staff impression
As this is the first map uploaded by Hawkeye we dont expect beginners maps to be glorious works of art, however for a first map this does indeed raise the bar for first time mappers. With plenty of texture variation and splines to keep things graphicly appealing Hawkeye has also taken gameplay into consideration with a large ridge running along the centre of the map is bound to provide kill zonesand narrow passages for those players who prefer defence over offence. Some things that could be improved or added to the map could include, a couple more texturs, some buildings to keep those infantry guys happy and maybe a few more splines. (These are just my opinions and we all know im picky ; ).

Summary
Definatly a good start and certainly an addition to any players list of maps. And remember with all mappers; feedback is what strives us to create and refine what we do, so if you download this map make sure you let Hawkeye know what you think of it. (constructive critisism of course)

I wish there was an overhead and tactical map view, but from the looks of it, this is a grand effort.

Thanks! Being new to this, I couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot of a tactical map view. If I figure it out, I'll add it with Version 1.1, which I'm working on to add a building or two and a couple of trenches.

Hi Hawkeye, great map for a begginer btw, spot on.

The best way to take a tacticle map view with all the rescource points included is to ;
1. Run CoH and play your map
2. At start pause as fast as you can and switch to tacticle map view (should be a button somewhere)
3. Press print screen on your keyboard (above insert)
4. Alt - Tab out of game and open up paint, photoshop or gimp and then paste the screenshot into there and save it as a .JPEG.

There you go a working screen shot, also if you want an overview shot of the entire map open up worldbuilder and load your map, once loaded go to file -> Save overhead map or something like that and follow the instructions.

Hope it helps, keep it up.

Interesting bottleneck map with pretty hills and rocks making the impasse. would be a treat for standard 1v1 testing different strategies to force the breach and the map is small so arty can get anywhere.

If you do a 1.1 rev, maybe two more openings on the left and right for flanking and make a bit bigger.

Two Thumbs Up!

Thanks for the comments, guys, I appreciate the feedback! I am working now on a much larger 6 player map at the moment, but still tinkering with Version 1.1 of the Pass and I'm taking all your suggestions and trying to incorporate them.

An over head view can also be found with the map files, under the ww2data files there is is two tga files with the maps name and one should be an overhead view, just with that it wont show bases etc like ingame might. The map looks good from the screenshots, i'll just have to play it now smile
