UPDATED LYES KROVY (Bloody Forest) (1.5) - File Description

Description:
About the File
This is an update to the forest map "Lyes Krovy" (meaning "Bloody Forest") by Eric the Red. It adds victory points, as well as correcting a number of small bugs with the AI. It also alters the forest to make infantry movement a little easier, and some of the footbridges now work a little more like footbridges.

Staff Impressions
I think my last review pretty much sums it up:
Quote:
This map is well set-up for infantry warfare, with few resources meaning that more advanced units will be out of reach. While this makes fortification difficult, it also means that players will have to be creative with how they spend their points.

Graphically, this map conveys the "dark forest" idea very well, with lots of trees, as well as small houses, a mill, and a river. Watch out for flanking attacks at all times, because it's almost guaranteed there is more than one route to any particular location.

Summary
A good update to a good map. Keep 'em coming!

P.S. Resistance is futile, eh?

Lyes Krovy -
"BLOODY FOREST"

V.1.5

******THIS IS THE UPDATED VERSION OF LYES KROVY******

The following improvements have been made to this map:
1. Victory Points have been added to the map.
2. All resource points have been set to "World" so that they are neutral at the start of each match.
3. The barbed wire on the trench flanks has been removed. AI moves properly at the start of each match.
4. The forest behind the trench barracks has been improved to facilitate infantry movement.
5. The footbridge now permits only infantry and motorcycles to cross.
6. Minor adjustments to foliage and scenery.

Completed on 12 August 2010. This update completed on 17 August 2010.

Testing performed by CAPTAIN B. A very hearty thank-you for the help!

If you like this map, please let me know!

******
This is my first map. Up to four players, medium size. It is a fictitious scenario based upon combat in the forests of Belarus during the Second World War. Soviet infantry and Partisan resistance were central to this area of conflict. Therefore, this map is designed exclusively for infantry, though armor can be employed fairly easily as well.

The map consists of dense forests, creating natural chokepoints which tend to widen during intense fighting. Small dachas (rural homes) are scattered throughout the map. An extensive trench system divides the map; the left and right flanks of the trenches can be penetrated.

A river winds its way through the map; it must be crossed at one or both bridgeheads. At the same rate, the bridges must also be well-defended to prevent enemy attacks into one's territory.

During testing, the fighting on this map was strong and concentrated. Despite the seemingly simple design of the map, defense and offense can be complicated at times.

The appropriate files should be extracted and installed into your maps directory:

Known glitches:
1. There is a howitzer at the rear of the trench system, located under a pile of logs, assigned to "World." This unit could not be deleted during production of the map.

Please report any additional glitches to me for correction.

ENJOY!

Much more flowing and harder work. I finally got the "tree felling" to work but by this time I had 150mm tanks and the end was in sight.

Very enjoyable save for the game crashing (my pc couldn't handle the number of masive explosions going on!).

Many Thanks Eric,

Just have to have another go...

Armored vehicles still crossing footbridges and the draw bridge on the allies side cannot be repaired.

504,
I'll check into those bugs and have a look the issues. Last run on this map was a few days ago and those issues didn't show up. Are you certain that you are using the V.1.5 map and not the first release of the map?

Doesn't matter.

The map rocks and feels so much like Russians v Germans in the east.

Works superbly with the latest EF mod update (the earlier ones boosted the Russians too much). Looks and feels right. But then, I keep winning!

Sounds like Magus1 likes this one! Glad it's been received so well. For my first map, it turned out nicely. I'd like very much to develop some winter-themed maps with snow, but it'll take some learning and application before I release one anytime soon.

Regarding the bugs:
Still couldn't replicate the "vehicles-over-footbridge" bug as indicated by '504. Is anyone else encountering this problem?

I've also noticed the "yellow box of doom" in two locations, according to my tester. One, located near the upper right corner of the map (on the smaller piece of mainland across the river), while the other is located under the log pile at the trenches (this is the "ghost" howitzer that could not be removed in World Builder).

Comments appreciated - especially constructive criticism.

More maps coming when there's time. Right now, I'm filling out applications and documents for the United States Air Force.
