Village - File Description  


Description:
In his debut appearance at Company of Heroes Files, Feavox has supplied a six player map that will put a bit of a challenge into your hopes of walking away with bragging rights! This map has two rivers with an island that is sure to be the center of attention when the battle rages...you will have to contend with winding paths by the woods and a road.
    Some of the features of this map include:
    • There are 4 bridges:
      • Two for the Allies
      • Two for the Axis
    • Two paths which leads through the knee-deep water.

Installation and play instructions:
Unzip to
C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\WW2\Data\Scenarios\MP

Play game with the -dev command by making a copy of your Company of Heroes shortcut on your
desktop and adding -dev to the "target" field like this:

"C:\Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" "-dev"

A fun map. I played as an Axis with a Normal axis AI, versus two allies Normal AI. I expect I'll probably play allies soon. I used the Combat Revolution 3.33 Beta.

Once the bridges go, the narrow strip on the left side of the map becomes a bloody soup. Here's a shot of the sort of carnage I'm talking about.

Resolution not so good and at night, but those are all piles of bodies.

I would suggest making your bridges a little tougher. They seemed to go fast. You might even consider making one or two of them indestructable. Other than that, a nice fun map. I really enjoyed the 'gatehouses' you made along the main road.

There must be 50 maps out there with the word 'Village' in it. Come up with something memorable, even if only fictitious.

Like 'Captain Hooker's Maneuver' or 'Operation Calaban' or somethin'.

hey nice map.
i just wanna to know: what happens to those death bodies??
if i understood what the oklahoman said they appear when bridges blow up, but im not shure i understood well.
anyway its a good map, i think i'm goin to download it!

All the dead bodies and wreckage remaining on the map is a result of the Combat Revolution mod. I was just using it as an illustration of the congested and furious fighting at the chokepoints. The AI of the mod is also much more difficult.

I played Allies tonight, same configuration as above. This was one of the bloodiest and longest battles I have ever played. Eventually, I was able to keep a bridge intact long enough to get a bulldozer croc across and land some paratroops. Geez, it took forever. Here is another screen:

One possible bug...not quite sure if it is map or mod, tho. Something about where the bridges connected to the ground prevented vehicles from crossing on a rebuilt bridge. Also where the river ford meets the Axis side of the river in the southwest corner of the map. Getting vehicles across this map was nightmarish.

I really liked the tricky secret paths through the woods...tanks taking cover under a canopy of leaves. Nice touch.

I played the Allies and took over the entire center in a matter of seconds. I do concur with TheOklahoman that the bridges are buggy when rebuilt. I believe this is due to the fact the bridges lie too low for the terrain.

I once again played infantry and provided cover for my troops using timed 105s when crossing the bridges. It did make things quite bloody of course. smile

Had to rush across before the Axis dropped their own Flak and rocket barrage on me. smile

The details were nice. I liked the third "hidden" pathway. I also agree the name should be a little more inventive. "Like 'Captain Hooker's Maneuver' or 'Operation Calaban' or somethin'." is fine. But I'm more partial to Captain Hooker's Chalet. smile

I played Axis and indeed can verify there is a bridge problem with the Axis side. I still think they are just set a little too low.

It seems to be harder to play the Axis because of this as my troops decided to autopath through the water route rather than the bridges. Occasionally one or two did decide to go that way though.

Another thing I noticed, is to make sure you delete your .bak files before distribution. It basically makes your package twice the size it needs to be.

good map for a first time creator, tho i have to agree on the bridge's, they are a little to weak and dont stand up to much, a few mortor bombardments and they fall Hmmm Donut! mm donut ^^; i was saved by the land bridge bug, i took out the germans 2 man made bridges and moved my force over to the water way and got a...some what nasty surprise when i crossed, about 3 panthers 1-2 tigers 6-8 armoured cars and lots of stugs, they were all gathered in one place (at the waters edge) and being infantry commander i used my 3 howitzers to bombard that area, needless to say all made a big boom and all my howitzers ranked up in no time ^^; ANYWAY,
